| GMC Srinagar sans anti-Haemophilia drug | | Hundreds of patients left to fend for themselves | | Nitesh Sangral

Jammu, Dec 15: The claims of the Health and Medical Education Department may be tallest about medicare facilities available in the government hospitals but sadly hundreds of patients, who are suffering from Haemophilia have been left to die due to non-availability of the anti Haemophilia factors in Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital Srinagar for last more than two months.
Similarly, in Jammu Province most of time, the patients deprived from the anti Haemophilia factors as shortage of stock due to non-seriousness of department of concern towards those patients, who are already victim of nature (suffering from life-long disease).
However, Medical Superintendent of Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital Jammu, Dr Dara Singh admitted and said, "At present anti Haemophilia factors are available in the hospital but we also sent a proposal to higher authorities for the funds likely to be released so the factors are purchased before its finishing."
Pertinently, irked by the callous attitude of the Health Department towards the haemophilia patients; the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had also pulled up and directed it to keep the factor available for 24 hours in the hospital but unfortunately, the Health department has disobeyed the Court ruling also.
Sources informed Early Times that previous government as well as present government are non-serious and have turned blind eyes toward imperative need of the factors for those patients who are already struggling for survival as suffering from life-long disease (Haemohillia).
"Owing to lackadaisical approached of the department, the patients have left on mercy of the god with the department is not moving an inch to mitigate their suffering.
Sources claimed that there are 350 registered patients suffering from Haemophilia, whereas there are only two treatment centres in the entire state as a result the patients belong to for-flung areas are constrained to cover long journey for getting the factor infusion which speaks of unhealthy state of affairs of the health department.
"All the patients are being neglected by the Health department and state government and patients go back disappointed from the GMC hospital Srinagar as lack of required factor, can complicate their disease anytime," a member of Haemophilia society alleged, adding the risk of disability among those patients becomes much higher.
When contacted Medical Superintended of GMC Hospital Srinagar Dr Nazir Choudhary admitted that the factors are not available in the hospital for last more than two months and said the issue has been taken up with higher authority but nothing has been done in this regard.
On being ask, how much it will take to available factor in the hospital, he replied don't know as it's depend on health department. |
