Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 15: The Public Opinion Forum (POF) has demanded that the people friendly legislations, enacted by the Indian Parliament, should be extended to the state of Jammu and Kashmir without wasting any more time. After holding deliberations on these sensitive issues in a meeting held here, the Forum asked the state government to introduce Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, 73rd and 74th amendments of the Constitution of India dealing with Panchayati Raj System and Municipalities and National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013. A statement issued by the POF here today said that the Education Act empowers 25 per cent of the students, belonging to weaker section of the society, to get free education from the private educational institutions, while NFSA provide food grains at a very low price to those needy people which hitherto were denied of their basic right under the Act. And, the incorporation of the 73rd and 74th amendments dealing with Panchayati Raj System and Municipalities, help democracy reach at the grass root level thus increase popular supervision of the welfare schemes operated by the Centre and the States. The members present in the meeting termed opposition of National Conference to NFSA something unfortunate and welcome the move of the present coalition government with regard to the Food Safety Act. The Forum also urged the State Government to act on amendments (73rd and 74th) and introduce Right to Education Act in Jammu and Kashmir without wasting any more time.
