NSF asks JU VC to step down on moral grounds | 'Cancelling ARs selection process for sake of his daughter' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 15: The National Secular Forum (NSF) today asked the Jammu University (JU) Vice Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma to tender his resignation on moral ground after an alleged scam of favouritism and nepotism surfaced belittling the esteem of the Chair of VC wherein he went ahead to abandon the selection process for the posts of Assistant Registrar mid-way after his daughter ultimately failed to make her entry into the list of shortlisted candidates. Addressing a press conference, NSF Sr.Vice-President Surjit Choudhary while referring to an RTI reply said that the daughter of Vice Chancellor had applied for the post of Assistant Registrar (Kathua Campus). She obtained overall 12th position in the written examination for the said post. Hence, she failed to make into the list of candidates shortlisted for the interview and maintained adding that the Vice Chancellor crossed all the limits of official propriety just to help his daughter out of the way to provide her another opportunity to occupy the post of Asstt. Registrar by whatever means at the cost of much more eligible candidates. He alleged that Prof Ramji Dass Sharma was not the Vice Chancellor at the time of written examination hence he had 'no say' in the administration at that point of time. But when he took over last year he deliberately delayed the selection process and was looking for an excuse to abandon the selection process so that the same could be started afresh and his daughter is adjusted easily, he alleged. "This year in August, the Vice Chancellor constituted a committee out of the coterie of his favourites which recommended the cancellation of interview process as per the wishes of the Vice Chancellor and he ordered cancellation of process in a jiffy and advertised the posts afresh without taking the matter to competent bodies for approval as per the standing norms of the University, which is a brazen abuse of official position for aggrandizing personal benefits. Hence, he has lost the confidence of the students, non-teaching and teaching faculty at large and therefore he does not have the moral right to hold his position any longer," he explained. He advised the Vice Chancellor to immediately step down to maintain the sanctity of the Chair so that state government can conduct free and fair probe into the matter besides other numerous cases of corruption otherwise NSF shall be constrained to launch massive agitation against him. He also urged the Governor Chancellor and the Pro-Chancellor not to gloss over this issue of serious nature and taking cognizance of the matter, the Vice Chancellor may be asked to step down. |
