Traffic Police launches special drive against overloading

JAMMU, Dec 15: In order to curb the menace of overloading of passenger vehicles, Traffic Police Rural, Jammu launched a special drive w.e.f 7-12-2015.
The drive is being conducted under the supervision of Dushyant Sharma, Supdt of Police Traffic Rural, Jammu.
During the period of one week 149 vehicles have been challaned for overloading. Besides, 2823 vehicles have been booked for other visible offences like driving without DL, use of mobile phone while driving, riding without crash helmet, triple riding, over speeding and driver without seat belt. An amount of Rs.377050 has been realized as fine from violators and 17 vehicles have been seized. As a part of ongoing special drive, all field officers have been directed to show zero tolerance for such violators indulging in overloading particularly in PSVs.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held with Kuldeep Singh ARTO Samba, J. S Sumbrian Dy. S.P Traffic Samba-Kathua, DTIs and senior citizens of Samba district to help improve traffic management.
The people were given assurance that all hunger routes shall be provided with additional transport wherever required, by the MV department. In this regard a survey will be jointly conducted by traffic police and MV department and the requisition of additional transport will be put forth to the concerned transport authorities. During the meeting it was also flagged that some schools were using private transport for transportation of students causing scarcity of PSVs in certain areas. Public was requested that they should discourage such practice and shall also discuss the matter with school authorities to provide their own transport. The field officers of traffic have been directed to take action against over speeding buses, especially displaying "Superfast" on them, which is not authorized to any PVS.
It was informed during the meeting that public cooperation is required to curb the menace of overloading in passenger vehicles. It was told that public awareness could save precious lives from accidents.
