Sam Samat locals protest over shortage of water, electricity

Rajouri, Dec 15; Inhabitants of village Sam Samat and its adjoining areas today demonstrated against acute shortage of safe drinking water and electricity in their localities
The inhabitants of village Sam Samat and its adjoining areas assembled here today on main road and demonstrated against the local MLA, district administration, PDD and PHE for failing to provide smooth supply of water and power to their areas. The agitated villagers also blocked Rajouri-Thannamandi road for more than two hours.
"Despite several representations to the concerned officials of Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Power Development (PDD) Departments nothing has been done to rectify our problems of drinking water shortage and electricity," said Mohd Nasir further adding, "Power supply has been snapped for the last four days."
Imran Dar a political leader and social activist said that for the last two months the inhabitants of these areas were not supplied safe drinking water by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department giving many excuses.
Another villager Mohd Nissar said that the PHE pipes were damaged in the floods since they are just running from pillar to post to get the replacing of damaged pipes but the district administration / PHE officials have failed till the date for the last two months.
He added that just a single PHE scheme is operational in the area making the people to suffer a lot.
The protesters have warned the concerned officials and district administration to restore water and electricity supply to their areas within next three days otherwise they will be forced to organize a big protest demonstration before the office of Deputy Commissioner.
Chaman Gorkha, SHO Rajouri along with civil officers rushed to spot and pacified the protesters assuring them to take up the matter with senior concerned officers of PHE, PDD and civil administration. Following their assurance the local lifted their protest and traffic was resumed on Rajouri -Thanamandi Road
