Excise Com chairs revenue review meeting

JAMMU, Dec 15: Excise Commissioner, J&K Tsering Angchuk took Revenue Review Meeting of various officers of Excise and Taxation Department, here today.
The over-all growth scenario of the revenue receipts of the Department for the month of November,2015 and total revenue realized till the month of November for the financial year 2015-16 was discussed threadbare and examined critically.
It was noticed in the meeting that the revenue realization of the Department is showing an upward trend with regard to the revenue targets fixed for the Department for the financial year 2015-16.
The total revenue realized by the Excise Department during the month of November 2015-16 has been recorded to the tune of Rs. 98.33 Crore in comparison to the 87.89 Crore realized during November, 2014-15 registering growth of 11.88%. Up to the month of November, 2015-16, the department has realized an amount of Rs. 762.32Crore as against Rs. 663.37 Crore up to the month of November, 2014-15 registering growth of 14.92%.
On the front of Eradication and Enforcement activity 2598 raids have been conducted in entire Jammu division to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor from other States, illicit distillation of liquor and other violations. In the process, 104 persons have been arrested and cases have been lodged in various Courts of Law against the accused persons for illegal smuggling of liquor meant for sale in other States, illicit distillation of liquor and other ancillary offences. More than three tons of Lahan, meant for manufacturing illicit liquor, has also been destroyed in Jammu Division by Excise sleuths who have conducted surprise raids in various areas to arrest the menace of illicit distillation. In the process 1604 bottles of illicit liquor have also been destroyed on spot and fine of Rs 11.90 lakh has been collected.
Up to November,2015, at Toll Post Lakhanpur , 2674 bottles of IMFL, 21909 no's of willow clefts, 403kgs of bhukki, 8670kgs of banned polythene ,19025 kgs of Herbs(Nagshatri), 780 bottles of drugs were seized and fine to the tune of Rs.20.43 lakh was also collected under various tax evasion cases.
During the meeting, all officers of the Department were impressed towards day and night vigil to improve revenue realization and to redouble their efforts to generate revenue for the State. All Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers were present in the meeting.
