Soz credits UPA-II for Food Security Act | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 15: Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Saif-ud-din Soz Tuesday said the credit for Food Security Act goes to UPA-II and it has brought great relief to the needy sections of society throughout India. In a statement Soz said the adoption of this Act in the J&K State is a welcome measure. "The States' Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs has, however, to ensure that no section of the targeted group is left out of this, essentially, pro-poor measure. Another important thing is that the Public Distribution System has to be rejuvenated as it needs quite a lot of improvement. The rejuvenation of the public distribution system must be within the public knowledge so that people feel convinced that something substantial is being done for their welfare. Already, mistakes have been noticed in the CAPD system. If the Public Distribution System continues as it is at the moment, I am afraid; the well-intentioned scheme may suffer set-back in its implementation," Soz added. Soz said the Government should initiate a vigorous public awareness programme so that the people remain alert about proper implementation of the law. Soz further said the minister concerned has done some explanation of the scheme, but he needs to launch a vigorous effort to reach every section of the society, rather effectively. |
