Fruit growers accuse Veeri of offering lip service | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, DEC 15: Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri Tuesday gave strict directions for gearing up of enforcement wing of the Horticulture department to ensure quality supply of pesticides and other Horticulture Mineral Oils (HMOs) to fruit growers of the state. The minister is trying to score a point and turn his ministry's failure in helping the growers sell the apples at reasonable rates despite record crop this year. A grower from South Kashmir's Shopian district accused the minister of offering lip service to the people. According to him, sub-standard fertilizers and sprayers have wreaked havoc with the orchards. Nobody has taken any action against the suppliers because they grease the palms of the concerned authorities. "the matter was taken up with the concerned time and again without results,' he said. The grower said the department must help them selling the apples in Delhi and other fruit markets across the country. The grower further urged the minister to ensure that the checking squads act on time with honesty and dedication. |
