KATHUA, Dec 15 : Miverva Academy Chandigarh won the inaugural match of the 6th Police Martyrs Memorial North Zone Inter-Club Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, organised jointly by J&K Police and Shaheed Welfare Committee at Sports Stadium, here today. The event is held every year in memory of Shaheed DySP Manjeet Singh and other brave hearts of the J&K Police during all these years of militancy in the state. Earlier, batting first, after Minerva won the toss and opted to field, Vicky Club Pathankot made 91 runs in 18.1 overs with Sukhjinder (24) and Jaskaran (14) being top scorers. From Minerva, Gurinder claimed three wickets, followed by Gaurav Gambhir and Vinay, who shared two wickets each. In reply, Minerva chased the total making 94 runs in 17.1 overs losing three wickets. Ravi Inder Singh and Manpreet Goni (not out) were top scorers with 28 and 23 runs in their respective accounts. Krishan and Rahul took one wicket each from Vicky Club. For his three wickets haul, Gurinder was declared man of the match. Earlier, the tournament was declared open by Additional Director General of J&K Police, Dr S P Vaid amidst tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives while defending the country. Among others present were District Police head, other senior police officers, Principal PTS Kathua, Commandant IRP 19 Bn, Commandant 121 Bn CRPF, ADDC Kathua as also family members of the martyrs. |
