Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 15 : The 2nd edition of State level Inter-Collegiate Volley ball championship (for men and women) for the Annual Silver Rolling Volleyball Trophies instituted by Governor NN Vohra in Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur began today. Governor Vohra was the chief guest and Pawan Kumar Gupta, Minister of State for Finance was the Guest of Honour. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest congratulated the College for organizing this tournament and making it a big success. Appreciating the whole hearted participation of the colleges across the state he said that teams from Laddakh region should also be invited to the tournament. "Winning and losing are part of the game but such tournaments provide an opportunity to the students to interact with each other, to built character, stamina, strength and a lifelong friendship" he added. He also witnessed an exhibition match between Government College of Physical Education, Ganderbal and GDC Udhampur. On Day 1, in Men's category GDC Udhampur reached the semifinal by beating GDC Reasi in the league match and GDC Tral in the quarter final in straight sets (25-10, 28-08,25-17). In the other quarter finals, SPMR college of Commerce beat GDC Ramnagar, GGM Science College, Jammu beat GDC Baramulla and MAM College Jammu beat Govt. College of Physical Education in an exciting contest by (25-19, 25-23,14-15,25-22). In Women's category Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar beat GCW Udhampur in the Quarter final by 2-0 to reach the seminal. In the first semifinal, GDC MA Road beat GDC Ramnagar to reach the final. |
