Jammu, Dec 23: Blame it on the snail's pace at which the concerned agencies are executing the work, the Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to miss May 2018 deadline to electrify the remaining unelectrified villages of the state, despite having adequate funds As per the latest data of union ministry, in the month of April 2015 the state has 132 unelectrified villages. Out of these, only 26 villages were electrified till the end of November and 106 villages are still unelectrified in the state. The pace of work has belied the claims of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi made during his address to the nation on 15th August, 2015, wherein he announced that remaining 18,500 un-electrified villages would be electrified within next 1000 days. "Government of India has decided to electrify all unelectrified villages of the country by May 1, 2018" he said. The budgetary allocation under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana is Rs. 4500 Crore for the financial year 2015-16. If the sources to be believed, the Union Ministry of Power has sanctioned Rs 532 crore worth projects for Jammu and Kashmir against projection of Rs 1249 crore under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) with the directions for revisiting the Detailed Project Reports for electrification of un-electrified villages. During the meeting of the Monitoring Committee on DDUGJY held recently under the chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry of Power, it was observed that there are 6564 villages in Jammu and Kashmir as per the Census of 2011 and out of these 132 villages are yet to be electrified. |
