Early Times Report
Pahalgam, Dec 23: The administration finally woke up from slumber, taking cognizance of an Early Times report, and booked an 'influential' resort owner for polluting Lidder river here and spreading infection. An FIR 99/2015 under sections 270 and 188 of RPC was registered against the owner of Kolahoi Green resorts, Pahalgam, on the direction of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Pahalgam, at police station Pahalgam, a senior police officer said. He said that they had received directions from the higher ups to act against those who "damage the fragile environment of Pahalgam". SDM, Pahalgam, Nisar Ahmad Nisar, who had earlier assured action against the hotelier, confirmed that police had registered FIR against the hotelier for spreading infection by draining out sewage from the hotel. Section 270 of Companies Act, 1956 states that -Whoever malignantly does any act which is, and which he knows or has reason to believe to be, likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both. The hotelier was also charged with section 188 of Indian Penal Code for disobeying government order. Pertinently, on December 18, the Early Times had exposed the hotelier who was caught discharging sewage from his resort into Lidder river. The SDM had seized at least one dozen pipes from Kolahoi Green Resorts which the influential hotelier was using for discharging sewage of his hotel into Lidder in blatant violations of law. |
