Early Times Report
Poonch, Dec 23: It may sound strange but it is a fact that the government middle school at Simkon in Manjakote zone of the district has one room for 80 students. The school has a total of two rooms; one for the teachers to sit and the other for 80 students of eight classes, ie from class I-VIII. The school building was constructed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) two years back at the cost of Rs 9 lakh but its construction was later stopped for unknown reasons. Panchayat Chairman of ward No 6, Munir Hussain and member Makhan Chowdhary said the condition of the school was very bad as the teachers "find it very difficult to run eight classes in one room". After they brought the matter to the notice of tehsildar, Mankote, Shahzad Khan, he constituted a team of inquiry to find out the facts and ordered for submission of report within two days. Locals alleged that the contractor had left the work half-way and demanded an inquiry. When contact, Chief Education Officer Lal Hussain said he had taken the cognizance of the matter and after inquiry, action would be taken against the defaulters according to law. |
