Two Police personnel injured as militants open fire during Eid-e-Milad | Militants attack SDPO Bijbehara, disrupted Milad procession | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Dec 24: Suspected militants on Thursday attacked a senior police official and his personal security officer (PSO) in Chief Minister's hometown Bijbehara resulting fear psyche unleashed in the town which played a spoil sport in the celebrations of Eid-e-Milad. As per reports, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bijbehara area of Anantnag and his PSO identified as Tanveer Ahmad sustained critical injuries when some suspected militants opened fire on them. The injured were evacuated to Sub-district hospital Bijbehara where from they were shifted to Army's Badamibagh cantonment hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment. Reports said that at around 12:30 pm, militants fired upon the police party headed by SDPO Bijbehara Irshad Ahmad Rather when reached near a Garments/hosiery shop at Teli Mohallah Bijbehara. "The officer along with a police party was in the town to accompany an Eid-e-Milad procession that was about to reach the spot and was scheduled to pass through the area," sources said, adding the unidentified gunmen appeared on scene from nowhere and opened indiscriminate firing on police officer.' An Eyewitness told Early Times that the officer received critical injuries. Meanwhile the militant attack disrupted all most all the Eid-e-Milad processions in the town as following the attack devotees were terrified and were running for the cover. "Many devotees including children crowded in Masjids and houses while as many ran for cover. During all this many people received injuries," a local resident said. Soon after the attack police, army and CRPF cordoned off the area to nab the militants but due to Eid-e- Milad, cordon was lifted paving way for the militants to escape from the spot. However, a senior police officer said that all the security agencies have activated its intelligence grid. Since November 23, when police and army in joint operation killed three militants two of Bijbehara, the Chief Minister's hometown is witnessing a swift change and according to intelligence agencies the anti-India sentiment is fast growing in the town. |
