Karra could be shown the door anytime! | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 24: Founder member of the PDP, former Finance Minister and party MP from Srinagar Tariq Hamid Karra could be shown the door anytime from now. The reason is that he has openly criticized the party leadership and has alleged that leaders have diluted party's "core agenda". In an interview to a national news agency, Karra accused the party leadership of "Muzzling the voice of dissent within the party" and said: "What is the point in attending meetings where the leadership is not willing to listen to you? Dissenting voices are being muzzled there (in PDP)". Karra, who defeated NC president and former Union Minister Farooq Abdullah in the Lok Sabha elections last year, said "psychophancy is being promoted within the ruling party". He didn't stop just there. He went on to say that "nothing has changed almost a year later"; that "my reservations are well known"; that "this alliance (PDP-BJP) has not gone down well with the people of Kashmir"; that "the alliance has not been accepted by the people"; and that "revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), return of power projects to the state and self rule for the state are some of the core agenda of PDP but these issues have been put on the backburner". Karra even went to the extent of suggesting that "Chief Minister should have resigned on November 7, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned down his demand for dialogue with Pakistan at the public rally here (Srinagar)". The words which he chose to express his reservations and the manner in which he spoke against the PDP top leaders only suggested that he was in a fighting mode and that he has been creating a situation that forces PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to act tough against him to send a clear message to others in the party that indiscipline won't be tolerated at any cost. It was not the first occasion when he has taken on the party leadership. He did so in the past at least three times. Besides, he didn't think it proper to attend any of the party meetings since the formation of the PDP-BJP coalition government. He also has not attended a single meeting of the PDP-BJP Coordination Committee. The fact of the matter is that Karra has reached a point of no return and that's the reason that he could be shown the door sooner than later in the party's larger interest. |
