Banihal, Dec 24: Frequent traffic Jam on Jammu Srinagar highway that are routine affair along the ever busy Jammu Srinagar National Highway are leaving commuters irked as traffic congestions at bottle necks even leave passengers to stuck up for over 6hrs. Today also commuters had a tough day as traffic jams were witnessed at Jawahar tunnel Banihal to Ramban and in Batote and Kud sector on highway.
Some Passengers who got struck up in traffic Jam at Banihal said that they left the Srinagar at 10:00 am morning and they are still stranded in Jam at Banihal from past five hours.
Stranded passengers said that it is the fault of traffic police who do not manage the smooth flow of traffic on highway. "The authorities should allow the traffic on one way instead of two way which often turns a mess for all along highway," suggested Nazir Ahmed of Srinagar, adding, "this will not only be better for the passengers but for smothering traffic and reducing accident also."
"The passengers were stuck in Jam for more than six hours among the passengers children, aged persons and women were the most affected, he added.
Official sources said, "The main reason behind this traffic Jam is the slippery condition around the Jawahar tunnel on highway as the road here gets slippery due to the minus temperature during the night which reduces the traffic flow proportionally. "Traffic police allows the traffic from Banihal and Qazigund after 11:00 am towards their destinations when flysh on road starts melting, they added.
Meanwhile stuck up passengers alleged that the miss management by Police and Traffic authorities are the main reasons behind the traffic Jams as they (traffic police) help to make way to some known faces and which forces the vehicles stranded on road in complete zigzags.
Due to unnecessarily jam many passengers were seen leaving their vehicles and walking on foot towards Banihal Railway Station to get the last train for Srinagar while the passengers from Srinagar were seen looking for vehicles desperately at Banihal to reach to Jammu.
