Turncoats promote Sufism in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 25: A few groups promoting Sufism has triggered a debate in Kashmir. People who are promoting this thought are claiming that they are doing so to strengthen the brotherhood and amity in Jammu and Kashmir but their critics believe that they are promoting "fake Sufism" to create confusion not only in Jammu and Kashmir but in the entire country. Recently Divine Abode and Marwah Studio along with AAFT organized international Sufi festival in New Delhi to highlight the role of Sufism. Sources said, "promoting Sufism" in Kashmir could prove to be a big money spinner as a few foreign countries are also involved in the endeavor. People who were a part of the Sufi festival in Delhi have announced that they would be taking the devotees to Tajikistan on a religious tour. The group has extended the invitation to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to preside over the Sufi conference in New Delhi scheduled to be held in January next year. Critics are of the opinion that promoting this new form of Sufism is an effort to create further division in the society and have one more sect at place. "A few retired officials are on forefront and they are playing a vital role to ensure that this group gets enough publicity and people are roped in on the name of religion," said a source. He said the main motive behind promoting this thought and taking people on a foreign trip is a part of bigger "political game." "The people associated with this group have big political ambitions. When Congress was in power in the Centre they had joined the party to remain in the good books of the powerful people. The change of guard at the Centre made these people change their loyalties and have been hovering around BJP leaders, including the Prime Minister," the source claimed. He said on the name of tolerance a few people seem hell bent upon creating uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir as well the entire country. "Some people are hell bent upon keeping the pot boiling in Jammu and Kashmir and want to give separatists a chance to provoke the people on the name of religion. This can have far reaching consequences," the source added. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "A few people have been assigned a job by the unknown forces to ensure that confusion should not end in Jammu and Kashmir and they are doing their job. Government should wake up and curtail the activities of such groups, who want uncertainty and confusion to prevail." He said, "It's strange that Kashmir has become a breeding ground for the people of all the thoughts. From radicalization of youth to preaching Sufism everything is happening in Kashmir. And surprisingly all these thoughts enjoy the patronage of the foreign countries." The analyst claimed that if steps are not taken to curb such practices and preaching it can push Jammu and Kashmir once again into the quagmire of uncertainty. |
