RTI shows JU's 'Display Your Talent' awards influenced, biased

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 25: While the controversy over the recently announced drama festival results of the state Cultural Academy refuse to die, another controversy over the awards on 'Display your Talent' of Jammu University has cropped up.
A Right to Information application has been filed by one Rajat Gupta of Canal Road seeking information on the judgment delivered by the various judges for skit and one act plays held at Jammu University during last two preceding years.
He has sought information on the apprehensions that judgments were tampered to deny a particular group while the non-deserving were promoted by fabricating the judgment points for the groups.
The RTI copies present with Early Times say that the skit competition held on September 21, 2015, which were adjudicated by three judges viz, Bhupinder Singh Jamwal, Anil Tickoo and Janak Khajuria has given the wrong judgments in first, second and third categories.
The skit 'Tension Hai Bhai Tension' that stood first accumulated 27 marks while 'Pani Tera Rang', which was adjudicated second, got 21 points. The third in the series viz 'It Happens Only in India', which was adjudicated by the judges is shown in the RTI to have garnered 22 points, which makes it apparently clear that there was injustice done by the judges with the latter production, which should have stood second.
When approached, Bhupinder Singh did not respond to the ET call while Janak and Tickoo's numbers remained out of reach.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bhupinder Singh is an employee with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages as music choreographer. He is also founder member of Pancham Society of Art, Culture, Educational and Social Upliftment, Jammu and member of another two theatre groups viz Duggar Manch and Amateur Theatre Group. Pancham and ATG both participated in the recently concluded annual drama festival 2015-16, the results of which are in controversy.
Anil Tickoo, another Judge is also an Academy employee while Janak Khajuria is a senior theater artist of the state.
In its preceding judgment of one act play of Display your Talent of Jammu University for 2014-15, the RTI filed by same Rajat Gupta has charged of tempering the numbers while accusing the judges of manipulation.
In its judgment one of the judge, namely Vikram Sharma, a senior state journalist and dramatist has been accused of tempering the results.
Again, here the charge is of favoritism and bias.
As per the RTI copy available with office, a play namely Baba Jitmal presented at number 8 has been given a total of 40 marks by Vikram Sharma while on the second column of the marks sheet under the caption 'acting', the marks are shown to be overwritten and tempered. The Play was directed by Ravinder Sharma, director Samooh Theatre.
When contacted Vikram Sharma said, "Yes I know I have overwritten on the mark which was earlier 9 , but have been overwritten by me as 8.
He added that while there were five columns to gage the marks viz content, acting, craft, direction and production , he found the play Baba Jitmal a strong production and found it worthy of equal distribution of marks in all columns which had come to a grand total of 40.
"I gave all five columns 8 each and calculated them to 40, only realizing later that I have wrongly put in 9 in column two which I overwrote on it to make 8 for 40. Had I deliberately done that, the first total count would have been 41 and then there would have been overwriting on 41 to bring it back to 40 which is not," clarified Vikram Sharma.
He also added that he deliberately did not use any ink removing fluid to remove 9 and super scribe 8 which would have been a clear case of cheating.
"There is no tampering from anywhere or Jammu university authorities and I am open to any test of handwriting expert agency to gauge that it is my writing only and I stand by my judgment that is very fair and only according to my wisdom ," said Vikram Sharma.
