JKRTIM moves beyond RTI awareness, organizes trekking expedition to Tossa Maidan

SRINAGAR, Dec 25: The Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information Movement (JKRTIM) besides making the people aware about aspects of RTI movement has also been organizing other activities as well.
As part of the same movement a two day trekking event titled as 'TosaMaidan Chilla-e-Kalan Trek -II', was organized by JKRTIM. The event was flagged off by Director Tourism, Mehmood Ahmad Shah, from TRC Srinagar.
The trekking expedition was organized by School for Rural Development and Environment-(SRDE), Initiative for Development Alternatives-(IDA), Pirpanchal Adventure Club, J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club in collaboration with Tourism Department.
Experienced trekkers from Kashmir like Dr. Shaikh Ghulam Rasool (Chief Patron, TosaMaidan Bachao Front) Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat (President, Pir Panchal Adventure Club) and Mohammad Akram (Vice President, TBF) led the trekkers.
At least 50 trekkers from all over the state participated in the expedition. The trekkers started their journey from 'Boom Dour-Shuglipora' of Khag area, via 'Soipathri' mittehwanun-nag and at 4 PM, reached gateway of Tossamaidan, 'Dumdum-e-Drung'. From there onwards the trekkers explored the length and breadth of Tossamaidan covered in White blanket of snow. The trekkers stayed in Gujjar Dhokas near padshahmarg (Tossamaidan) and experienced the first coldest night of chill-e-kallan of minus 14.6 with moonlight and camp fire. The trekkers enjoyed camp fire throughout the night and trekkers explored areas like Bassum Gali, China Gali, China marg, Nouv-shaher Gatteh-Marg, Wotteg Deor, Hundih Kaleh etc and moved back towards Shunglipora, where lunch was hosted by Forest department.
This was for the second time Snow-Trekking expedition was organized by SRDE and IDA, organizations working on Rural Tourism and sustainable development. The purpose of such expeditions is to explore potential and mesmerizing beauty of TosaMaidan in winters, hence attract more adventure lovers and tourists to this meadow and eventually, contribute to the community development.
Chief patron TBF, Dr Shaikh Ghulam Rasool appreciated the trekkers for their participation in this challenging expedition and extented words of thanks to Forest department and Tourism department for Support. "The purpose of organizing this event was to show to the world that there are all kinds of tourism potential at Tossamaidan especially Winter sports potential. SERD and IDA are committed to work for promotion of Rural Tourism and Sustainable development for Tossamaidan and its adjoining areas," said Dr. Ghulam Rasool.
