Authorities sleep as illegal structures come up along Sindh | | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 21: Illegal structures erected by `unscrupulous' elements including a top bureaucrat along Sindh at Zuripora Kullan in Ganderbal district have brought administrative lethargy to the fore. As per norms no structure is allowed around 350 ft of the flood channel. However, the structures in question have been raised around a few metres from the flood channel. Documentary evidence in possession of early Times reflect that the structures have came up at a distance of mere ten to fifteen feet from stream which is posing serious threat to the eco-fragile environment of the picturesque location. Sources said that a top bureaucrat of Kashmir valley has also constructed a residential structure near the stream wherein he has deployed security to prevent locals. Sources said that these morons who also ferry illegal construction material have encouraged smugglers to go berserk with their unlawful approach. "We fail to understand as to how these people ferry construction material to building prohibited sites, from Santri to Mantri everyone is aware of the transgression, else it is extremely impossible to construct a residential or commercial structure along Nullah," sources said. They said that authorities have never bothered to visit the site to check the illegal structures which are taking toll on the environment. "There are around four to five structures came up during a short span near Nallah Sindh, our officials seldom attend their offices not to talk of taking actions against their seniors," sources told 'Early Times'. They said that from Sonamarg to Ganderbal many illegal structures including that of hotels and huts have came up in sheer violation of Master Plan Act. "These structures either belong to top government officials or those having friendly rapport with Mantris of bureaucrats. Sources further revealed that many influential people who had sought permission for a single residential hut or even those who have no permission are raising structures in the vicinity. They said that the unaccountability and slapdash approach of the government in checking the menace has taken heavy toll on locals and the environment as well. If the official sources are to be believed there are around fifty to sixty structures came up in 'golden meadow' Sonamarg which have gone unimpeded in absence of accountability or any firm act. |
