VC refuses to take honorarium from IGNOU after VO notice | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 21: Vice Chancellor University of Jammu, Prof. RD Sharma has reportedly refused the honorarium received from the IGNOU centre being run from the JU campus, but the refusal has come only after the Vigilance notice issued to the University of Jammu over a series of complaints. Sources in the JU claim that the IGNOU centre headed by Prof. Vibhakar Mansotra has become a hub of irregularities as thousands of rupees are distributed to the blue eyed as honorarium for various works. Sources also divulge that thousands of rupees are also paid to the Vice Chancellor of the host university as honorarium and cheques of this honorarium were accepted by the VC Prof. R D Sharma till the VO notice was slapped on the JU. "The VC has recently informed in a communication that from now on, he shall not accept these cheques of honorarium. The communication is however silent on the thousands of rupees accepted in the past in the name of honorarium from IGNOU" said an officer of the IGNOU. " The previous VC's had denied such honorariums and Prof MPS Ishar had even written a letter recommending that IGNOU centre in the JU be closed as he was aware of the nepotism and irregularities in the Centre, but Prof. R D Sharma did not only overlook this recommendation, but became a part of the system by directly accepting the cheques of honorarium" he added. ET has reliably learnt that the previous VCs had been depositing the honorarium received from IGNOU in the students' welfare fund. "Vice Chancellors should not accept such honorarium as it is unbecoming of those holding such high positions to have parallel sources of income, that too within the Universities they head" a senior officer in the University lamented. A student leader of the JU when contacted sought an inquiry into the acts of omission and commission going on in the IGNOU centre. "It is matter of inquiry why the present VC was accepting the honorarium while his predecessors were not. It should also be inquired whether VC was reflecting thousands of rupees accepted as honorarium in his IR returns" he averred. |
