Jammu, Jan 21: In the backdrop of reports, regarding recommendations made by Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education department to Governor NN Vohra appealing him to direct JK Public Service Commission authorities to allow all Ph.D holders for interviews of Assistant Professors, NET/SET holders have appealed government to adhere guidelines of University Grants Commission (UGC) for recruitment process. They have also appealed Higher Education department not to meddle in the recruitment process, which is already running at snail's pace, otherwise the process would not complete in years together. NET/SET qualified candidates say that Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission is all set to complete the interview process on fast track basis but the uncalled and illogical intervention of Kashmir University as well as Jammu University authorities, would put the commission in quandary. A NET qualified scholar, Javed Ahmed said that as per UGC regulations of 2009, which were also supported by Supreme Court judgment of 2015, only candidates with NET/SET or Ph.D as per 2009 regulations were eligible for the posts of Assistant Professors. "The SRO 124 of JK Higher Education department also lays down above eligibility criteria, but in the midway of ongoing recruitment process, KU and Jammu University want JKPSC to allow Ph.D candidates, in violation of UGC regulations and order of Supreme Court, which is unwarranted for", he said. Another NET qualified scholar Aijaz Ahmed said that already the recruitment process had been delayed by two years and there must not be further delay. The NET/SET qualified candidates are of the opinion that if all Ph.D holders would be allowed in the interviews, then the NET/SET qualified candidates would be out in the short listing, by default. "There are many Ph.D qualified candidates who have obtained their degrees from the universities, notorious for selling degrees and such candidates have secured even 80 percent marks. If such candidates will be allowed in the interviews of Assistant Professors, then ultimately they will be selected and not the NET/SET qualified candidates", an aspirant alleged, adding that it also raised doubts over the Ph.D degree of aspirant, who failed to qualify NET/SET but attained Ph.D degree. They appealed Governor NN Vohra, Higher Education department to direct JKPSC to speed up the recruitment process without any further delay. |
