Legislators miffed over performance of ex-ministers | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 21: While the PDP and BJP have start the process for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, resentment is brewing among their legislators against some senior leaders for not taking them in confidence in crucial decision making. The J&K is under governor's rule following the demise of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. However, there has been significant development for the last five days with both parties hinting of forming the government in the state. The PDP has been demanding that BJP should respect the 'agenda of alliance' drafted by the two coalition partners in March last year for smooth functioning of the government. But the legislators who were not part of the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led regime are making serious efforts for their inclusion in the upcoming government that will be headed by Mehbooba Mufti. Sources said majority of legislators of both the parties have been demanding that non-performing ministers who were part of the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led Cabinet should not be made ministers. They said these legislators are demanding that new ones should be included in the Cabinet unlike the previous ones when majority of whom failed to deliver on poll promises they had made with the people. "Legislators of PDP and BJP, who were not included in the Cabinet are upset with some of their leaders for sidelining them when they were in government. Few first time legislators were given important portfolios but there are also two and four time legislators who were ignored," a PDP legislator said. "After these first time legislators were made ministers, they were so arrogant that they didn't listen to us and even we have to seek permission a day before to meet them," he said. A senior BJP leader said the legislators, who were excluded from the cabinet are making hectic efforts for their inclusion in the cabinet. "The legislators are also annoyed that the leaders who lost their Assembly elections were taking important party decisions while the winning candidates are being sidelined," he said. Sources said the legislators who were miffed with the 'low-key' ministers being allocated to them were also making efforts to get charge of important departments when the government is formed in the state. Many sitting legislators said while the defeated leaders were taken on board about the government formation yet they were ignored in spite of being the party's elected members. "It is we people who know what is happening at the ground level. We were a bridge between the government and people in last one year and know what exactly is happening. But unfortunately instead of taking us on board, the party leadership has preferred defeated," a PDP MLA said. The BJP MLAs make similar complaints that party leadership was not taking them on board for government formation. "Nobody is taking our views seriously. The party leadership is listening to only those legislators who were ministers of the PDP-BJP government," a BJP legislator said. |
