Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 21: The report that the BJP high command has decided to de-link BJP national general secretary from the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir has been appreciated by most of the local BJP leaders.
"The decision of the party high command to de-link Ram Madhav from the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir is good omen," they have told this correspondent on the condition of anonymity and added that "it was he who destroyed the image of the BJP by hobnobbing with separatists like Sajad Lone, supporters of Article 370 like Hina Bhat and drafting an agenda of alliance that was highly divisive, Pakistan and separatist-friendly, anti-Army, anti-Jammu, anti-Ladakh, anti-Kashmiri Pandits and anti-refugees".
"It was wrong on the part of the BJP high command to charge him with the responsibility of tackling Jammu and Kashmir affairs and negotiate power-sharing deal, as he didn't know anything about the complexities of this state and the issues facing different people inhabiting different regions of the state," said a former senior office-bearer of the BJP.
He told that that "even the Jammu and Kashmir BJP Prabhari Avinash Rai Khanna vitiated the whole atmosphere in the party by taking decisions in consultation with the vested interests in the party" and added that "Ram Madhav and Avinash Rai Khanna and their coterie in the local BJP worked in a manner that was not in the best interest of the party".
"Avinash Rai Khanna and Ram Madhav and ineffective and weak leadership of the Jammu and Kashmir BJP was responsible for inducting outsiders in the party, giving them tickets in the Assembly elections and also assigning them important duties, including the responsibility of projecting the BJP's viewpoint," told another very senior BJP leader.
One of the senior BJP leaders even accused Ram Madhav of "misleading the party high command and persuading it to dilute the party's ideology" and asserted that "it was he and Khanna who made BJP national president Amit Shah to decide against issuing the party's election manifesto". "It was their wrong assessment of the Kashmir situation which resulted in the humiliating defeat of all the BJP candidates in the Valley," he further said, adding that "had the BJP made public its election manifesto during the Assembly elections and focused only on Jammu and Ladakh, the BJP would have won at least 32 seats from these two regions and had been in the driver's seat in Jammu and Kashmir".
Many other important leaders of the BJP in Jammu also expressed almost identical views and expressed their happiness over the reported move of the high command to dissociate Ram Madhav from the Jammu and Kashmir affairs. "It would be a good riddance," they have told this correspondent. They have also said that the "Jammu and Kashmir BJP needed someone from New Delhi to look after the party's affairs who is experienced and who knows what ails Jammu and Kashmir and also understands the nature of politics the various actors play in the Kashmir Valley".
