Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 21: The residents of Channi Himmat locality are shocked over the decision taken by the district administration against the covering of Thanger nallah to build parking lot for the Channi-Himmat Cremation Ground.
According to locals the decision was taken when already lakhs of rupees had been spent on the construction of the parking lot and further leaving the construction for parking lot in midway is not of any logic.
They further lamented that, more so, the work of iron fencing along the both sides of the nullah for prevention of dumping of garbage has also been stopped.
Interestingly, the decision was taken despite of the fact that the office of Managing Director J&K Housing Board had issued No Objection Certificate on January 27, 2015 to the ERA paving the way for 150 ft long Parking lot from culvert of cremation ground.
While referring to the issue, Thakur Chamail Singh, Ex Sarpanch said that the purpose of the parking lot near the cremation ground was the need of the hour as both the tubes near the cremation ground are chocked due to the parking of vehicles during lat rites of an individual further resulting inconvenience to other commuters.
"Channi Himmat is a well populated posh locality but the Cremation Ground sans parking space which always has been cause of concern for residents of said locality hence administrations needs to give a second thought to it," said Rashpaul Singh Charak , the senior Congress leader from area.
Meanwhile Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pawan Kotwal when contacted said that the administration said no to the covering of Thanger nallah to build parking site outside Channi-Himmat Cremation Ground as it has valid reason. He said that the area is low lying and is pointed as 'storm water drain'. "Covering of the same means inviting flash floods to either side of cremation ground, he said, while adding, "administration has deputed DC Jammu and JMC team to the site shortly to see the feasibility for mitigating the problem of the parking."
