Crackdown on mining mafia, vehicles engaged in illegal sand and stone mining seized | | | Ashwani Sharma

Udhampur, Jan 21 : Taking serious notice of alleged illegal mining of the sand and stone from riverbeds, the district administration today seized atleast four vehicles comprising tractors and trucks which allegedly were engaged in illegal mining of sand during a raid conducted in Birma Pul area of Udhampur. According to officials sources following the direction of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary a team led by Tehsildar Udhampur Sapna Kotwal along with Naib Tehsildar Vinod Badyal escorted by the police reached to the spot i.e. Birma Pul locality of Udhampur where some people were allegedly mining sand and stone illegally. "However sensing trouble on seeing administrative officials escorted by police contingent, the owner and drivers of the vehicles involved in illegal mining escaped from the spot abandoning their vehicles behind, officials added. He said, "Taking strict action against illegal miners, the Tehsildar Udhampur seized all the four vehicles including tractors from the spot and directed SHO concerned to book them as per law." Meanwhile appreciating the administrations move the residents of the nearby areas told media that despite the ban, mining was going unabated for the last some months in Birma Pul rivulets. Tehsildar Udhampur maintained that administration shall further intensify the drive against illegal mining and those involved in the illegal business will be booked. Pertinent to mention here that district administration has already imposed ban on illegal mining and also have imposed restrictions under section 144 Cr to save the ecology and surroundings of the area. |
