Cong Core Group meeting tomorrow | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 23 : Amidst indications that People's Democratic Party and its supremo Mehbooba Mufti are not willing to once again forging an alliance with Bhartiya Janta Party for formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir, the Core Group of State Congress is meeting here on Monday. The Core Group meeting will be held under the chairmanship of PCC president G A Mir for a threadbare discussion on the present political scenario in Jammu Kashmir and role of Congress party keeping in view of its responsibilities as well as aspirations of people of the State, sources in Congress circles informed this while sharing the development. During the meeting, sources further said, the PCC president is also likely to apprise the Core Group members about the party high command's view point towards the present political scenario in J&K, in the wake of then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's death and imposition of Governor's rule in the State. The Core Group, comprising all Congress MLAs, MLCs, vice-presidents, general secretaries and senior vice-president, is being held at PCC headquarters, near Shahidi Chowk Jammu, at 11 a.m. According to the sources, Mir had gone to New Delhi for meeting with the party high command for discussion over pros and cons of a possible PDP- Congress alliance in Jammu Kashmir to keep the saffron brigade out of power. The high command is learnt to have told the PCC president to take a feed back in this regard from within party and the Core Group meeting has been planned in this context, sources explained. Pertinent to mention that Congress has 12 MLAs in the present Assembly where PDP is the single largest party with 27 MLAs, after the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. All the independent MLAs have already conveyed to support an alliance minus BJP while Pawan Gupta is also understood to side with any ruling party. |
