| Officials sell cement to black marketers, allege locals | | | MS NAZKI

Poonch, Jan 23 : Residents of this frontier district on Saturday alleged the Government cement being supplied from Jammu for MGNREGA works is not reaching the deserving people.
Sources said the government cement being supplied for MGNREGA works which are in progress in Poonch district, goes to some other places instead of stores for unloading.
"Small contractors crave for a few bags of cement for the works they have undertaken, while as influentials take away the entire truck loads," locals alleged.
Sources said the store keeper Subash Sharma has failed to distribute the cement in an appropriate manner.
"He along with Panchayat members and Junior Engineers supplies this cement to black marketers. Small level contractors face many hardships as they have to wait for days together for a few bags of cement."
Locals today staged a protest in front Office of Block Development Officer, Tariq Aziz and Director RDD Jammu demanding stern action against the accused officials.
They in a joint appeal to Commissioner Secretary RDD urged him to pay a heed towards the plight of small contractors of MGNREGA.
While talking to Early Times ACD Poonch Dr Basharat Ahmed, said, "You have brought the matter into my notice and an inquiry will be initiated soon in this matter. Anybody found guilty won't be spared." |
