Early Time Report
Jammu, Feb 27: Union budget which is to be presented in Parliament on February 29 may give stir up still waters of political scenario in J&K too if some concrete sops are announced by the Central government for this state as special and separate package.
Sources said as silence continues within both PDP and BJP for over a week now, the ice may break next week that will pave way for some movement forward towards government formation by the two parties.
Sources said PDP President Mehbooba Mufti is now waiting for presentation of Union budget as she is eyeing for some substantial and concrete sops earmarked in it as a special package which was sought by the party in terms and conditions for forging alliance with BJP again.
Sources further said that the Confidence Building measures which the PDP chief referred to after her party's meeting with the Governor NN Vohra early this month have already been discussed by her with the BJP's central leadership and the latter has given assurances on that, notwithstanding the fact they have their reservations on certain issues . Even though in her meeting with BJP leader Ram Madhav last week reassurance has been given to her once again but Mehbooba Mufti is not ready to rely on verbal assurances alone, sources said.
Before taking a final call , rather decision on having alliance with BJP once again, she wants something concrete and substantial, sources said adding that Union budget being a matter of few days, she is waiting now what the Central government will offer to J&K which will prompt the party to take some steps. Sources said since the PDP leadership was adamant on fulfilling what the party wants within a stipulated time, there is every likelihood of having these in the forthcoming budget. Pertinently, the party's thrust apart from controversial issues like AFSPA revocation is primarily on additional funds as a special package for rehabilitation of flood victims and some concrete measures on power projects.
If union budget finds mention as concrete measures on any of these matters, there may be some movement forward in political scenario of J&K as this could remove trust deficit PDP is nurturing for a long time in having alliance with BJP for formation of government in the state, sources said. However, BJP cannot go beyond a line in offering things for J&K in view of its political compulsions but it remains to be seen what direction things will take next week.
