JAMMU, Feb 27: The SHO of a police station in Samba district has been transferred to another police range, following his alleged role in timber smuggling. That he was part of the timber smuggling racket became known after senior police officers carried out a secret probe against him, police sources said. The need to carry out probe was felt after the murder of an official allegedly by timber smugglers under the jurisdiction of the police station headed by the SHO, sources said. Soon after his alleged role was established in the timber smuggling racket, he was transferred to another police range, the sources added. Sources said the police inaction against timber smugglers, who were active in the area for the past some time, had led to the official's murder. Though the SHO was yet to be relieved, senior officers wanted to replace him with the Inspector who could bring timber smuggling to an end in the area. A search was on for such an officer, sources said. |
