Jammu, Feb 27 : Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Fighters Association (JKFFA) on Thursday paid rich tributes to revolutionary freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad on his death anniversary in a function organised at Ved Mandir Amphalla, here. The function was organised by JKFFA President Ved Gandotra. Floral tributes were paid to the great soul by all the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Gandotra and State President, Ram Sena Rajiv Mahajan said that the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and the martyrs were still a ray of hope for our countrymen to follow to make an India of their Martyr's dreams. They said that events like these are important to recall the sacrifices made by the leaders of freedom era. "For any society, it is very important to remember their golden history and India's modern history's hero is Chandra Shekhar Azad," they said. Chandra Shekhar Sitaram Tiwari, who came to be known as Azad later was born on July 23, 1905, in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao District. He formed the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and was mentor to revolutionaries such as Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Batukeshwar Dutt and Rajguru. Bhagat Singh joined Azad following the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, an Indian leader who was beaten to death by police officials. Azad trained Singh and others in covert activities, and the latter grew close to him after witnessing his resolve, patriotism and courage. Along with fellow patriots like Rajguru and Sukhdev, Azad and Singh formed the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, committed to complete Indian independence and socialist principles of for India's future progress. |
