Cervical cancer: computer assisted radiation therapy helps to spare healthy tissues
2/28/2016 12:15:13 AM
Jammu, Feb 27 : Cervical cancer is the top most killer in Indian women, affecting them in the age group of 35 to 64 years, but computer assisted radiation therapy helps spare health tissues.
Despite being preventable, cervical cancer continues to be the second most common cancer in women, said Dr Rajeev Bedi, Director of Medical Oncology at Fortis Cancer Institute Mohali and Dr Narendra Bhalla, Senior Consultant-Radiation Therapy, Fortis Cancer Institute, Mohali while interacting with media here today. He said that as per the Cancer registries (official data maintained about cancer patients) over 70 percent of cancers in women occur in the age-group of 35-64. Despite cancer knocking early on doors, around 70 percent women seek diagnosis and treatment at an advanced stage of the disease, resulting in poor survival rate and high mortality.
