Let us rename JNU as 'Deshbhakt Maj Vivek Gupta University' | | | Nikhil Gupta
The recent renaming of Aurangzeb road in Delhi gave a message to people of India. Aurangzeb was a bigot who penalised Hindus, destroyed temples, encouraged conversion through inducement and enforced Sharia on the majority. He was extremely cruel for killing his siblings, imprisoning his father and sister and executing Guru Tegh Bahadur ji. It is an appreciable government decision to rename Aurangzeb road. It was better if Aurangabad was also renamed as Shivaji Nagar. This renaming has shown that it is possible to rename public infrastructure. So, there is a big question now whether we should rename JNU considering the recent events in JNU where anti-India slogans were raised. How can we allow blatant anti-India slogans in the country's central university? JNU has also become famous or notorious for so called celebration of mahishasur day . Since 2011 this mahishasur day was celebrated in JNU by propagating a falsehood that mahishasur was ancestor of dalits and backwards of India . According to Hindu mythology, demon Mahishasur was slain by Durga. However some students in JNU think that Mahishasur was the ancestor of the tribal, dalit and backward communities in the country and was killed by Aryans with the help of the goddess Durga. In 2012, All India Backward Students' Forum wanted to celebrate Mahishasur Day as part of the battle for cultural liberty of Bahujans and backwards of India . According to various articles published in various newspapers and magazines such as "Forward Press " , Mahishasur was shown as ancestor of backward Yadavs. The origin of the concept of 'Mahishasur martyrdom day' can be traced back to an October 2011 cover story of 'Forward Press' questioning dalits as to whom they are worshiping. The article, in a myth busting pose, proclaimed 'Mahishasur' as a dalit who was killed by Durga in a deceitful way. Many tribal people claim that, "Asur or Rakshas were none other than natives who fought the Aryans to protect their land ". One view is that the name Mahishasur is derived from 'Mahish', meaning buffalo, the main source of sustenance for both Yadavs and tribals. It is important to note that tribals in India are given Schedule Tribe category and Yadavs are given backward category whereas most of dalits are given Schedule Caste category. In past also, JNU became notorious for celebration by some persons when 76 CRPF personnel were killed by naxalites. After the Kargil battle a function was held in year 2000 in the JNU campus in which two army persons namely Major K K Sharma and Major L K Sharma were also present and they could not tolerate anti-India poetry in that function. Both these army persons were brutally beaten by the students in that function. Both were admitted to hospital in bad condition and this matter was also raised in the parliament but we do not know whether any punishment was given to the accused or not. Presently JNU has become infamous for chanting of anti-national slogans. Various reports show a group of people in JNU shouting anti-India slogans such as "we will split India", war will continue till Kashmir becomes free, etc. No doubt, the India's Constitution gives her citizens an inviolable right to speech and belief. But slogans referred to a war that will go on till Kashmir is freed. "Kashmir ki Azaadi tak, jung rahegi, jung rahegi." The slogan shouters did not stop at that. They rhymed it with "India ki barbaadi tak, jung rahegi, jung rahegi". That means the war will go on till India is destroyed. This would have been enough to light a furious fire in the hearts of the proud and patriot nationalist Indians . How can any nationalist tolerate such slogans against the country? India is not a week country and can teach good lesson to its enemies. India has defeated Pakistan many times and can again defeat it anytime. There should be no doubt about it. The selection process of professors should also be reviewed in the universities and it should be made mandatory that only merit oriented and competent persons are appointed in the universities. But sadly this is not the case and there are many cases of nepotism and selection of incompetent people as professors in the universities. When merit is ignored, what can such teachers teach students? Merit is a very bad word nowadays . Sometime back there was a rally organized by pro reservation persons in Jammu and there were many posters pasted on Panama chowk where merit was cursed by writing that "merit my foot " , "what is merit , first define merit " etc . But in my view only meritorious persons can take the country forward . All castes and religions are equal in our country, so all nationalist Indians among all castes and all religions should protest against the anti-national slogans in JNU. How can nationalist people support those terrorists who were given punishment by Supreme Court after due process of law. In my humble view, we can inculcate nationalist spirit in the minds of students by renaming JNU after some deshbhakt Indian who fought his countrymen. The best name can be Martyr Maj Vivek Gupta who gave India first victory in the Kargil war. The only option for Maj Gupta and his men was to launch a frontal attack and this was like suicide because in frontal attack with no cover, the attack was bound to face enemy barrage of bullets and rockets . With no fear and having capability to lead the troops from the front , Major Vivek launched a ferocious attack and gave India its very first victory in Kargil. Let us rename JNU after such a great warrior and let the students imbibe his nationalist spirit. |
