Early Times Report

Anantnag, Mar 19: Barely a day after police registered an FIR against a Sarpanch, a former Ikhwan commander now affiliated with People's Democratic Party (PDP) for his alleged involvement in 'flood relief scam' in Muniwar village of Anantnag, the locals have demanded stern against revenue officials who allegedly have facilitated the embezzlement.
Resenting the misappropriations, the locals accused district administration of shielding revenue officials involved in the flood relief scam.
"This is scam needs to be probed fairly, some locals said adding, "registering an FIR against a single person (Sarpanch) will not serve the purpose." "We demand a high level probe and strict action against all those officials who are allegedly involved in the scam," a group of villagers told Early Times.
They said that accused Sarpach in nexus with some black moles in Revenue Department have withdrawn a huge amount meant for flood victims fraudulently.
Villagers said how can authorities blame a single Sarpanch for providing fake list of flood sufferers when department has verified the list a dozen times in past one year.
"Each day we used to hear that list is being verified," locals said, adding district authorities are shielding revenue officials who are involved in the scam.
Pertinently, Anantnag police yesterday registered an FIR against Sarpanch of Muniwar Village of Anantnag district after district administration lodged a complaint with police against him for providing misleading information.
"The village Sarpanch- Muhamad Ashraf Wani alias Masarat Bilal son of Ghulam Nabi Wani, a former Ikhwan commander presently affiliated with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) landed in police net for allegedly providing fraudulent list of the flood victims to the revenue department.
The accused Sarpanch has managed to release relief money 14 times in favour of three households of his relatives in different bank accounts.
Police have registered an FIR vide number 65/2016 under Section 420 RPC against the former Ikhwani however no arrest has been made in this regard.
