Amid rural electrification claims, Rajouri villages remain dark

Rajouri, Mar 19: Notwithstanding the official claims about rural electrification, electricity mostly remains out of reach for the inhabitants of many far flung villages in Rajouri district.
Inhabitants of Khawas town (tehsil headquarter) and its adjoining areas are without electricity for the last many days as the transformer installed was damaged and nobody bothered to replace or repair it.
For the last 2-3 days many villages including Sonchal, Broh, Darkeri , are without electricity and the inhabitants alleged negligence on part of the PDD officials while Junior Engineer concerned claims that the lightening has damaged many transformers and feeding lines and the work is on to rectify the faults.
Pertinently, three villages and more than 700 hamlets in far-flung and border areas in Rajouri district have not been provided Electricity till today since the Independence Bainala, Lalu Khetar, Pingagala,Dharoti and other hamlets with more than 3000 population in Kalakote tehsil have been without electricity for the last more than 35 years.
"In the year 1982 the ray of hope was seen in our areas when electric poles and transformers were installed in Triyath and other areas about few km from Bainala, but since then nobody bothered to provide electricity to our areas" said Girdhari Lal ,Panch.
Other villages alleged that in 21st Century we are using kerosene oil lamps, candles to light our homes during night.
Similarly, dozen of hamlets in Nowshera tehsil situated along Line of Control (LoC) including Sarya, Makri, Daruni Gala, Thandi Kassi are without electricity since independence.
Mohd Din, Samina and Kuldeep Kumar inhabitants of these areas said that the matter has been raised several times with the concerned officers (PDD), tehsil administration and local MLA &MLC. But without false promises nothing has been done to provide us electricity.
"Now we have appealed to the Governor to bring our hamlets under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY) so that we can also enjoy the modern gadgets, television and telecommunication networks" said Mohd Bashir.
"More than 700 hamlets and 3 villages namely Bambal, Narla & Kachwal (in Budhal area) registered under Revenue records are without electricity in Rajouri district. All the three villages and more than half of the hamlets will be electrified under DDUGJY during 2016-17" said Gurmeet Singh, Superintending Engineer (SE), EM&RE.
He added that Government of India (GoI) has sanctioned Rs 50 crores for the electrification of all the villages and hamlets in Rajouri district . Out of which Rs 29 crores ( for first phase) has already been released by GoI to Ministry of Power Development.
