BARAMULLA, Mar 19: While three children were injured after a house collapsed in Pattan area, four houses were damaged in Baramulla district here.
Official sources said a house collapsed in Zangam village due to the landslides triggered by heavy rains, resulting in injuries to three children.
The injured were identified as Bilal Ahmad (5), son of Abdul Majid Ganaie, Sabreena Bano (7), daughter of Abdul Majid Ganaie, and Azad Ahmad (2), son of Abdul Majid Ganaie, all residents of Zangam.
Pattan police station SHO Ayaz Gelani said landslides struck the house of Abdul Majid Ganie in which the three children were injured.
However, after the incident they were sent for medical checkup to the nearby hospital and one was shifted to Srinagar, adding all the three injured children are stable now, the SHO said.
Sources said due to land slides, vehicles were stranded on the either side of road in Uri area, after which the authorities closed the road for some time.
The highway was blocked near Nandsingh Bridge in Uri, after which police and beacon were on job to clear the debris, said sources.
A resident of Khudpora said that due to sinking of land, four houses were completely damaged in the village. The houses belonged to Qadeer Beigh, Abdul Majid Beigh, son of Abdul Aziz Beigh, Nazir Beigh, son of Mohammad Ameer Beigh and Qadoos Beigh, son of Abdul Rahim Beigh. Some houses got partially damaged in Latiefabad Khudpora, sources said.
"Dozens of families have been shifted to safer places. There was no loss of life till the reports last came in", said sources.
However, due to incessant rains, several areas in Baramulla district were submerged under water. Anzher Muhjoo of Kasnispora complained of poor drainage system in the village.
"If we had a proper drainage, there would not have been water logging problem in our area. But the concerned officials have never paid any heed to our pleas as they are always making excuses," said Muhjoo.
Meanwhile, sources from Rafiabad said at least two families were shifted to safer places by police as they feared that their houses could suffer damages in case of landslides in the area.
The family of Ghulam Mohammad Wani of Vulutra Rafiabad was shifted to a safer place. Their house was declared unsafe in September 2014 floods.
A top police official said three separate teams of police were put on alert to deal with any possible adversity arising due to rains. Flood control room had also been set up to closely monitor the situation, sources said.
