Monkey menace troubling residents in Udhampur | | | Ashwani Sharma

Udhampur, Mar 22: Residents of this Udhampur town, who already have been reeling under the problem of stray cattle and stray animals, are now facing the monkey menace these days. A large number of monkeys are creating trouble for visitors to bazaar namely at Chabutra Bazaar , Sallian Talab, Adarsh Colony , Court Complex and other parts of town. The court complex Chabutra Bazaar and Adarsh colony areas of the town are worst affected as monkeys can be seen roaming around fearlessly there any time intimidating residents. "I noticed a monkey right in the lobby of my house the other day. It was opening the fridge when I entered the lobby," said a local businessman Dalip Arora. Locals alleged that some local residents were injured when a group of monkeys attacked them in past days. People visiting Chabutra Market for their routine hearings have to run for safety quite often when monkeys took control of the walking track. "Although the matter has been brought to the notice of the municipal authorities several times but all remains futile till date," said local resident Govind Ram. Locals have demanded that administration should approach wild life department to trap all these so that menace could be curbed upon. From the past few days a large herd of monkeys was seen around court and other government offices at Dhar road which could be spotted roaming on the roof tops of court complex and other buildings. |
