Avinash Azad Early Times Report jammu, Mar 22: Income tax deposited by tax payers is allegedly being 'misappropriated' in School Education Department with impunity According to sources around Rs. 70000 had been deducted as income tax deduction from the salary of a teacher, by the Principal, DIET, Poonch (DDO) who has to deposit the amount to Income Tax Department and get the amount uploaded against her PAN. "The Income Tax Department has shown TDS amount for the years 2012-2013 has not been deposited by the DDO in the Income Tax Department and the amount has been shown as outstanding including interest", sources said, adding that the amount deposited by the teacher has either not been deposited or misappropriated. The teacher filed RTI application to get exact information about the status of tax deduction, the sources said, adding that reply received by the teacher was unsatisfactory. Consequently, the teacher filed First Appellate Authority/Director, School Education. Unfortunately, the things remain unchanged, and finally the victim approached State Information Commission. "In response to notice of the SIC, Principal, DIET Poonch filed reply admitting that Rs. 70000 has been deducted from the salary of the teacher, which could not be uploaded against her Permanent Account No. (PAN) by the then Principal, DIET, Poonch", sources divulged. They further apprised the commission that the issue of deduction and uploading of TDS had been resolved and copy of consolidated receipt of amount uploaded was enclosed. "However, the victim before the commission submitted that an amount of Rs. 39,914, has been uploaded and the balance amount for the first three quarters amounting to Rs. 28,000 has have not been uploaded", the sources said. They further said that however, the department was trying to save its nose, and excuses that income tax deductions of other officials of the DIET, Poonch for the said period have also not been uploaded. They further said that however action against defaulting DDO for causing inconvenience to the tax payers has not been taken yet. "It was not an isolated case, it was just a tip of iceberg." |
