Rajouri, Mar 22: The nine kilometer road between Rajouri town and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) is in dilapidated condition and the inhabitants of the area and students and staff including faculty membes are facing difficulties while moving on this road. "It is not easy to drive your vehicles especially four wheelers on this road as they get damaged due to bumpy and pothole filled road. Pedestrian facing many difficulties while moving on this road especially whenever there was rain "said Mohd Sayeed resident of the area. The worst sufferers are the students and employees of BGSBU due to very less passenger vehicles moving on this road as the transporters have reduced the frequency of their vehicles to save their vehicles from frequent damages. "Many times we miss our classes in the absence of adequate passenger vehicles on this road. On the directions from the ex Chief Minister (Mufti Mohd Sayeed) district administration had introduced a bus service for the staff and the students but it was stopped after winter vacations for the reasons best known to the concerned authorities" said a student of BGSBU. The contractor has started repair and black topping work on this road and during process to construct retaining walls and drainages the road has been damaged at many places" said Sadeeq Ahmed Wani, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B). Inhabitants of the area today organized a protest demonstration under the leadership of NC Youth leader Mohd Sayeed Jat and blocked the BGSBU for more than three hours from 9 am demanding immediate repair and black topping on this very important road. After several protests the State government had issued the funds for the construction/black topping of BGSBU road in the year 2014-2015 but no contractor came forward as none of the contractor at Rajouri possess machinery required for black topping as per guidelines of PWD (R&B) department. "After re-tendering a contractor from Rajouri has been allotted the work of this road after completing all the necessary formalities. He has already executing the work of retaining walls and drainage system. By the end of April the road will be safe for smooth driving after completing the black topping work" said Executive Engineer , PWD( R&B). Darbar Ahmed , sarpanch of one of the four panchyats situated along this road said that the area is densely populated and the people as well as students and employees of BGSBU daily move on this road. "Besides this many delegates from all over India and abroad visit BGSB university workshops, seminars etc and they were travelling on this important road which create bad impression among them about the district administration as well as for the State Government" said a faculty member. |
