Early Times Report

Reasi, Mar 23: Residents of this district are suffering due to the alleged "lackadaisical" attitude of the officials of the Health Department and corruption prevalent in the system is adding to their woes.
The National Rural Health Mission has proved to be damp-squib in this district as most health centers are defunct due to non-availability of the staff members.
Locals alleged that in its Multi-purpose hiring of Female Multipurpose Health Workers (FMHW), the department has embarked upon corrupt practice in Reasi district as the females hired under such rules are executing their duties properly at their place of postings but have got their postings attached at various CMO and BMOs offices by allegedly greasing the palms of their respective superiors.
Various sarpanchs from Bhambhla, Netar, Ransoo and Makol on condition of anonymity said that their villages are deprived of the health care services as the females posted at their sub centers under the NRHM scheme have deserted the health centers.
Residents alleged that these female workers get their attendances registered at their original place of postings by influencing their superiors.
When contacted the CMO Reasi, Parvinder Singh, feigned ignorance about the matter but assured that he would direct the BMO to look into the same.
The Deputy Commissioner Reasi Sushma Chauhan who also happens to be the chairman of the NRHM said that she has not so far received any written complaint on the issue. She assured if people come to her with the complaint action could be initiated against the erring NRHM staffers.
Residents of various villages have warned the district administration to take up the issue as soon as possible. "If administration fails to act we will seal the health centres in the district," they threatened.
