Mehbooba sidelines middlemen, Madhav unnerved

Early Times Report
srinagar, Mar 23: President of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti, having a one to one meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has rattled the BJP leadership in Jammu and Kashmir and BJP's point man for JK Ram Madhav.
Soon after Mehbooba met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav advised the PDP president to take the BJP organizational leaders into confidence as BJP was the "appropriate forum to talk to, for arriving at any consensus on Government formation."
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, " Mehbooba this time around did not keep any middlemen and held one to one meetings with the BJP President Amit Shah and the Prime Minister Modi. Mehbooba not giving any importance to BJP leaders, including Ram Madhav, has not gone well with the BJP leaders and now they are trying to launch a counter attack on Mehbooba."
He said, "Someone needs to remind Ram Madhav that when he held negotiations with the PDP in 2015 he was the only leader whom the PDP representatives spoke to. That time he didn't advise the PDP leaders to hold negotiations with BJP as a party."
A Kashmir watcher claimed that State BJP leaders are desperate to be the part of negotiations so that they can put forth their point. "The people who were a part of PDP, BJP team in 2015 have been sidelined this time around. When Mehbooba met the BJP President Amit Shah in New Delhi last week, Ram Madhav announced that Government cannot be formed in Jammu and Kashmir. It was only after the intervention of the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley that talks resumed again. Since the day Madhav has been kept out of the process he has hardened his stand and has given such statements which have created confusion."
The BJP insiders said that a few Jammu based leaders have asked Ram Madhav and company to ensure that local leaders should be made the part of negotiations so that they can strike a best possible deal with the PDP. "A few BJP leaders have mooted the idea of raising the issue of rotating the Chief Minister's post after two and a half years. Most BJP leaders believe that PDP should not treat BJP its junior partner as they too have the support of 28 MLAs and numbers shouldn't be a problem."
Sources said that local BJP leaders want Ram Madhav to strike a better deal for them this time around so that BJP gets its due share in the Ministry. "It seems Mehbooba meeting PM Modi is just a beginning and not the end of the Government formation in JK. It seems still lot needs to be discussed between the PDP and BJP," said a source.
It's in place to mention here the Bharatiya Janata has already stated: "Final round of negotiations on Government formation will take place after PDP holds the legislative party meeting on March 24."
