Government formation before March 31 | PDP to elect Mehbooba as legislature party leader today | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 23: With Mehbooba Mufti describing her meeting with Prime Minister as "very positive" and "good", all eyes are now set on People's Democratic Party legislature meeting on Thursday during which Mehbooba Mufti would be elected as the legislature party leader. It will be the first formal step towards Government formation in J&K, which has been under the Governor's rule since January 8. "The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 pm at Mehbooba's Fairview residence in Srinagar where the Mehbooba Mufti would be elected as the legislature party leader. Besides this the party president will brief the legislators in the meeting about her deliberations with the Prime Minister," a senior PDP leader and former Minister, insisting not to be named, told Early Times. He said that the meeting is barely a formality where only an announcement of Mehbooba Mufti being elected as the legislature party leader would be made. "Everything is final now between the PDP and BJP. I would say that before March 31, we will have the elected Government," he claimed. He said that once the meeting will elect Mehbooba as the leader, PDP will approach the BJP and inform them about the decision. After meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Mehbooba had said a final call would be taken after the legislature meeting on March 24 in Srinagar. "I will go back to Srinagar and take the next step," Mehbooba had told reporters. Sources said that the BJP is also holding a core-group meeting in next two days for the future course of action about the Government formation. "We are hopeful that the PDP meeting will be decisive and something concrete comes out of this meeting. After they will take a final call we will convene a core group meeting which is the proper forum to take a call and announce future course of action," One of the BJP leader said. It is to mention here that the Jammu and Kashmir was placed under the Governor's rule on January 8 after Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away on January 7 in New Delhi after a brief illness, and Mehbooba Mufti did not stake claim to form the Government. |
