Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 11: Development plank of BJP, PDP govt formed last year did not yield any benefit to the residents of Mohra Gadyal belonging to village Dhanoo just few kilometers away from district Headquarter Udhampur who are still forced to drink contaminated water from bowli and nullah.
The sources informed Early Times that due to local petty politics, nearly 20 families of Morha Gadyal of village Dhanoo were subjected to discrimination and deprived of the drinking water facility despite their various representations and several deputations before the District administration with local Public Health Engineering Deptt turned a blind eye to fulfil basic necessity of providing safe drinking water. A local resident Ram Singh told that he met the local MLA whom villagers have voted last year for his help to solve their long standing problem insisting that their locality has been neglected all these years with no one to bring them out of drinking water crisis, but nothing concrete has happened so far, he clamoured. While talking to Early Times, local resident, Ishar Singh of 95 years age ,expressing his suppressed resentment against the successive governments in the state, informed that in the year 2001, former Sarpanch collected 1000 rupees per family on account of providing 1/4" water pipe connection for domestic use drinking water under Pilot Project but the benefit of the scheme did not percolate down to the residents of Morha Gadhyal who continued to be deprived of drinking water who are still languishing for the same since decades further bemoaned, adding that he still has to fetch water from Bowli at a distance of nearly one km from village even at this stage of life and remained whole life devoid of safe drinking water. Few villagers Karan Singh, Surjit Singh Bharat Singh Makhan Lal, Krishna Devi, Yashumati, Asha Devi, Ramesh Singh, Din Dayal, narrating their tale of woes, told that water tank is located within a walking distance from Morha Gadhyal of village Dhanoo which caters to the drinking water needs of the village barring their Morha who have to depend upon unsafe water from natural source like Bowli which even gets dry in summer compelling us to use filthy water of nearby Nullah.
The correspondent of Early Times talked to Sanjeet Singh, Sarpanch of village Singh, he corroborated the version of old man Isher Singh having collected an amount of Rs.1000 from each family of village Dhanoo to provide drinking water to whole village but hastily added that for unknown reasons, the inhabitants of Morha Gadyal are still without PHE water connections which confirms the dominance of petty local politics over years which victimized these people on this front who remained neglected for decades together for safe drinking water. He further said that duration of Pilot Project was of fifteen years which stands now expired and the PHE deptt should take over maintenance of water tank for further augmentation of water supply to left over residents of Morha Gadyal. The people of the village urged the new dispensation to come for their rescue enabling them to come at par with others at least for availing of drinking water facility what to talk of many other amenities they have the fundamental right to get. No senior officer of PHE was available for comment.
