Non supply of ration to migrants may lead many to starve: Exiled community | | | SK Kaw
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 11: The prolonged non supply of ration supply to the exiled community presently residing in various migrant camps in winter capital of state is left the community brewing with resentment against concerned relief authorities and the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) department alleging that it may leave many to starve. According to aggrieved members of exiled community, a strong resentment is brewing among relief holder Kashmiri migrants for prolonged deprivation of ration to them for the third consecutive month now and if same will continue to some more time, apprehensions are there that such pathetic approach of government may lead several families to starve. "Since February our ration has not been issued and we are unable to purchase it from market" said an elderly migrant relief holder Som Nath while narrating his ordeal. "Majority of us (migrants) depend upon government ration supplies and as we have been deprived of it for the last three months now," said migrant house wife Sarla Ji of Jagti Camp, adding, "it virtually shall lead many of us to starvation." While interacting with Early Times, a section of Kashmiri migrant relief holders across Jammu camps in one voice condemned the pathetic and callous approach of the government towards the issues of exiled community especially for not providing the ration to Kashmiri migrant relief holders as per old scale since last three months. They said our repeated pleas to concerned authorities have fallen to deaf ears till date. Narrating the woeful tales of some members of migrant community residing in Jagti camp, the Jagti Tenement Committee president Shadi Lal Pandita while sharing their ordeal with Early Times further alleged government is deliberately compounding miseries of the migrant community as there was no reason to withheld our monthly ration as we do not come under the ambit of National Food Security Act (NFSA)." "Since we (KPs) have been declared as displaced community and the relief to us be it cash assistance or ration are being taken care of by the Govt of India under security head, Pandita added. He warned the authorities that JTC is going to stage a protest demonstration to register their protest against non supply of ration on Tuesday and to press for our demand to release three months ration in our favour and that too as per old scale. "Further delay in issuing the ration to Kashmiri migrant relief holders will certainly lead to several families to starvation as many people are not in a position to purchase rice from the market" said AMCCC president Desh Rattan. He also added that AMCCC delegation had met with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh recently and apprised him of the problems being faced by the Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and other parts of country. "Union Home Minister has assured us that our genuine problems will be addressed," said Desh Rattan adding, "but it seems things are different on ground reality." Demanding immediate release of ration for the last three month, the social activist Sunil Pandita said Relief Organization should issue an order to release migrant relief holder ration as they are facing many difficulties. |
