SHO among six cops injured in stone pelting, mob resists detainment | | | Early Times Report
rajouri, Apr 11: Station House Officer (SHO) Manjakot and six other policemen were injured when protesters demanding release of a villager resorted to pelting of stone on the police in the afternoon today. Demanding action against those who allegedly had made false complaint with Deputy Commissioner against one Shahzad Azri of Mendhar, the protestors blocked Jammu-Poonch highway and also reportedly damaged some vehicles. Police party when tried to disperse the protesters they resorted to stone pelting forcing police to resort mild lathi charge and teargas shelling and during the melee SHO alongwith five policemen received injuries. "The injured have been identified as inspector Mohd Younis SHO and identities of other injured have been ascertained as Fiaz Ahmed, Mohd Shakeel and Mohd Jubair. Pertinently, few days ago a deputation from Ghambir Muglan met with Shabir Ahmed Bhat , Deputy Commissioner (DC) against one Shazad Azri, who according to them misguiding particular community for his vested interests and if not checked his activities will prove law and order situation. Deputy Commissioner later communicated the matter to Rajeshwar Singh, SSP Rajourio to investigate the complaint and take necessary action. On the directions from the SSP, Rajouri a police party from Police Station Manjakot visited Ghambir Muglan but Azri managed to give slip to police. Policemen on suspicion basis detained one Mohd Shabir Hussain, a PHE employee, for questioning because Azri had stayed at his residence on Sunday. Agitated over said detention, the supporters of Azri later staged protest at Manjakot alleging harassment by the police to Shabir and demanded action against those who had approached DC against Azri. Protesters assembled on Rajouri Poonch road to stage their protest against the police action and blocked road for over two hours affecting normal traffic on this ever busy road. Meanwhile on getting information about police public-clash, Paramjeet Singh, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) along with additional police force under the supervision of Hamid Choudhry, Deputy SP (Hqrs) rushed to Manjakot and held talks with the protesters. "Action under law will be taken against those who have blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway and also have damaged the vehicles besides resorting to stone pelting on the police" said SSP Rajouri. Meantime Deputy Commissioner Rajouri taking cognizance in this regard has restricted protests along Jammu-Poonch highway under the jurisdiction of Rajouri district by imposing Section 144 CrPC. |
