Probe demanded into Doda road accident | Condition of Kishtwar-Batote road worsening due to rains | | Early Times Report kishtwar, Apr 11: A judicial probe has been demanded into the yesterday's Doda bus accident in which six persons were killed and about 50 others had sustained critical injuries. National Democratic Party chairman Aijaz Hussain Naik said while majority of vehicles plying on various routes in Doda and Kishtwar districts were outdated, they were surprisingly being issued fitness certificates by the transport department. He also demanded personal intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti with regard to constitution of a judicial committee to probe the cause of increasing traffic accidents in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts. The judicial committee should be headed by a sitting high court judge so that responsibility could be fixed on the guilty persons, he demanded. He alleged that issuing of fresh fitness certificates to outdated and rejected vehicles from Delhi and Punjab with new registration numbers of J&K first surfaced during Shashoo Bus accident in Padder area of Kishtwar in which over 40 persons were killed over a decade ago. Such a practice was still going on unchecked in J&K, he alleged. He said that there was immediate need for providing at least 50 new SRTC busses for Doda and Kishtwar districts and sought attention of MLA, Kishtwar, and transport minister Sunil Sharma. He also demanded special exgratia relief to the families of those killed in the mishap. Youth Congress leader Randeep Bhandari demanded special attention of both Prime Minister as well as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir towards dilapidated condition of Kishtwar-Doda-Batote road. He said due to continuous rainfall in the area for the last few months, the condition of the said road was worsening with each passing day. In case the government did not give any attention to this road, its condition would deteriorate further. It needed to be built on the pattern of Jammu- Srinagar National Highway, he said. |
