Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 12: The Roads and Buildings department has started the process for taking decisive action against tainted officials against whom the State Vigilance Organization has sought the departmental action and are facing charges of corruption. One of the senior official posted in R&B department in civil secretariat said that the Minister for Roads and Buildings department Abdul Rahim Veeri has directed senior officials of the department to compile list of officials who have been indicted in corruption cases and have doubtful integrity. "The list being prepared would include those, against whom there were complaints of corruption and SVO has sought departmental action," an official said. He said the Minister has passed strict directions that these officials should not be given any prime posting. Sources said Minister has taken a serious a note that dozens of enquiries related to corruption that were referred by the State Vigilance Commission to department are pending for months and the Commission has directed department to act on outcome of complaints on fast track basis. "Once action is taken, it will also be communicated to the SVO what action has been taken on the outcome of reports," the official said. According to the official figures, the SVC has received 3353 complaints against officials of various departments for the last three years of which 985 were received in 2013, 1168 in 2014 and 1200 in 2015. Of the 3353 cases, 2928 have been disposed-off for further course of action. However, there has been poor response from departments to take action on the SVC enquiries. The SVC has sent queries related to corruption in departments but there has been poor response from the Government to act on these enquiry reports resulting there hardly seems any perceptible change on the ground to combat with corruption cases in the State. Sources said the officers of the R&B have been directed to take departmental action on the enquiry reports, wherever necessary, and not to wait for the outcome of enquiry/investigation being conducted on the same charges by Vigilance Organization or SVC. Further, the SVC has directed all departments to act on the outcome of its enquiry reports and same should not remain pending and wait for the further course of action. |
