Of 9 lakh jobs in pvt sector, State creates only 1579 | JK wins yet another dubious distinction | | Early Times Report srinagar, Apr 12: After winning the 'cap' of being the most corrupt State in India, Jammu and Kashmir is notorious for the highest transmission and distribution losses in the power sector. And, now it has won another `distinction. of being the second worst State in terms of job creation in the private sector ahead of only Odisha which stands at the bottom of the list with serial No 20. A report prepared by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) said of about 9 lakh jobs created by various States in the private sector, Jammu Kashmir created only 1579 which is less than 0.2% of the openings created across India. . The jobs were created in service (698), IT (220), real estate and construction (132), banking (106), insurance (102) and manufacturing (291) during 2015-16. The report was prepared after analysing on-line data about vacancies posted by various companies. Karnataka tops the list with 2.16 lakh jobs followed by Mumbai with 2 lakh jobs and Tamil Nadu 3rd with 93,000 jobs. According to unemployed youth, thousands apply for a few posts. "The results are obvious. So much manpower is available that the companies resort to exploitation. A person does not get more than 7000 a month and that too after working 10 hours a day", they said. They added that there was no job security. "It has to go a long way still before it can be called a sector in the real sense," they said. The ASSOCHAM in 2013 had suggested a package of Rs 10,000 crore for five years to boost economy. The position was as grim as it is today. Then, the State, according to the report could not attract even half a per cent of the total investments from Government and private sectors across India. D.S. Rawat, the national secretary general of ASSOCHAM had linked development to long lasting peace. |
