Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 12: The 4-lane National Highway NHAI was built with an aim to ease traffic on Jammu Srinagar Highway but the objective has not been achieved yet.
The promises of comfort journey are likely to be proven wrong as NHAI seems incapable to handle the traffic jams . It is busy and efficient in increasing the toll tax against the services which are yet to taken up. The locals rued that the probability of traffic jams were lesser in the past time even after the absence of 4 lanes Highway.
A traveller Munish Mehra said that even after paying a toll of around Rs.150, the NHAI failed to render the services to the travellers. He again said that frequent traffic congestion is becoming a routine affair at bottle neck of toll plaza.
Sources said that the traffic congestion is so increased now a days that sometimes the traveller has to wait for 2 to 3 hours at the toll plaza. Sources again said that instances of mismanagement in the toll plaza officials is well seen from the fact that the vehicles even Jammed the last left lane (exempted as well as emergency Lane) which is meant to free the emergency vehicles like Army Vehicles as well as Ambulance etc. Sources further said that the officials of the Toll plaza allow vehicles to pass through the same Lane which is meant to pass the exempted and emergency vehicles. They again said that the Toll Plaza officials have not implanted any restriction board in front of the exempted lane in order to restrict the passing of the vehicle through the same. Official of NHAI when contacted said that the control is under the company having tender of collecting tolls and NHAI has no role.
