jammu, Apr 12: Senior National Conference leader and party's ex-district president Taranjeet Singh Tony has resigned from the party over personal reasons. He has put in 35 years of his life to strengthen NC in Suchetgarh Assembly constituency from where he has contested three elections on the party ticket. In the last assembly polls, he lost by a very small margin.A copy of the resignation letter, signed by him, has also been submitted by him to the party president and former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah. Tony, who joined NC at a very young age in 1981, was at present a working committee member of the party. "I have worked in different capacities in the party. I was NCSU provicial president and YNC provicial president for 10 years each. I was also nominated as a member of NC working committee and then NC district president till recently," he informed. "I think I can serve the people of my Suchetgarh constituency better in other capacities, it is not only through a political party that you can serve your people, your country," he told reporters. He said he was forced to quit the party, that has ruled the state for decades, due to personal reasons and on the insistence of Suchetgarh people. "It is my own decision to quit the party even as it pains me to resign from it after rendering 35 years of selfless service. I thought about it at length and then decided to snap ties with it," Tony said. "But I am not hanging my political gloves as I have a lot of passion for my people. I have the drops of political blood in me so I won't quit politics because people of Jammu and Suchetgarh assembly segment need my services," he asserted. He said he had nothing against anybody in his former party and won't castigate it.I am not that type of a person." |
